An urban archipelago experience

The “City Adventure” concept for Hylkysaari Resort was designed as a hotel, experience and cottage complex that would bring the historic island off Helsinki back to life. The hotel was to be located in the building that previously served as a maritime museum and pilot station. There would be 27 hotel rooms in total.

A total of 38 modern cottages are set in the island’s natural surroundings, offering impressive sea views. The ensemble is complemented by five floating cottages with moorings, designed for the sheltered side of the island.

A distinctive atmosphere

The numerous old buildings and their use for accommodation, sauna and restaurant services also added character to the whole.

The arrival experience was an essential part of the concept. An electric boat connection directly from the heart of Helsinki would have offered guests an ecological and impressive transition from the bustle of the city to the tranquility of the archipelago. The concept’s completely distinctive atmosphere was completed by a pasture area in the central part of the island, planned to be realized in cooperation with Korkeasaari Zoo.
