Pasila’s new
media house

A monumental monolith

A new studio building has opened in Pasila – an audiovisual media center that combines modern technology and stunning architecture. This monumental monolith rises as a three-story, concrete-framed building clad in black metal, designed to meet even the most demanding production needs.

The core of the studio building is formed by three studios on the first floor, surrounded by high semi-public audience lobbies and media production spaces. Pieni Paja has been built alongside Iso Paja, and the two are connected by a canopy. The main tenant is NEP Finland Oy, which produces television programs and media content. In addition to open-plan areas, the third-floor office spaces include many separate rooms for work that requires concentration.

The building’s graphic striped concrete, dense vertically installed corrugated profiled sheet metal and smooth façade cassettes bring variation to the minimalist look of the façade. The building is a calming element in a densely built environment, its minimalist façade given rhythm and opened up with large glass walls. On the roof, behind a noise barrier, are technical installations such as backup generators, which are clad as part of the building’s architecture.

The studio building represents a new era in audiovisual media production and is perfect for both virtual and physical production. On television, the studio building can be seen in action during the lottery draws, among others, with one entire studio permanently dedicated to their broadcasts.

This studio building has been designed with the environment in mind, and a BREEAM environmental rating of “Very Good” has been applied for. The roof has provision for solar energy production, and waste heat from the data centers in the basement can be recovered for reuse. The data centers are operated by Digita Oy.
