Hybridiarena HYPE

The new hobby

and leisure

event venue of

Espoo.

Hybrid Arena HYPE and its adjacent new parking garage are located in Espoo, right next to the Kivenlahti metro station. The buildings are located in the armpit of the ramp that curves from Länsiväylä to Kivenlahti. Old Jorvaksentie borders the southern side of the block.

The new access road leading north will connect the workplace, campus and residential area of Kiviruukki to Kivenlahti, south of Länsiväylä, and to the services and functions of the new blocks being built near the metro station, one of the most significant of which is Hybrid Arena HYPE. HYPE’s goal is to develop and secure the implementation of sports services in an area that is developing in terms of its functions and growing in terms of its population and users.

The hybrid arena HYPE serves as an easily accessible event and meeting place in the area, combining sports and leisure activities, as well as entertainment and concert events under one roof. The high entrance hall, which opens to the south and west, provides access to services on all floors. The upper levels of the high hall and the external walls of the stairwell provide a platform for visible activities. The services and facilities are each located in their own block. The first ground floor with its café, as well as the roof floor with saunas and swimming pools are also available to visitors who do not participate in the actual sports activities themselves.

Panoramic sauna,

a roof terrace,

and a restaurant.

The top floor of the building features a west-facing rooftop pool, a rooftop terrace with seating areas and activities, and sauna and reception areas. A smaller sauna with a view is located as part of the representative premises. In addition, the rooftop terrace has its own larger sauna area in connection with the pool.

In addition, the top floor features impressive restaurant spaces with open views directly to Kivenlahti.

Large

multipurpouse

halls and

event spaces.

The services are planned to include a diverse selection of different sports and physical activities, from e-sports and wall climbing to ice hockey, racket and ball games, as well as various dance and gymnastics sports. The third floor is home to an experience arena, which allows for various events for up to 1,000 people. The arena also has its own VIP rooms, which can be accessed from the experience arena’s loft.

The placement of the services is influenced by, among other things, the possibilities for each function to open up to natural light through windows, as well as the importance of proximity to the stairwell. This is a kind of three-dimensional puzzle solution, which is also visible in the facade composition; the different functions are outlined in the building mass as smaller parts divided by window openings and facade divisions. The spaces that require and tolerate more light are placed on the outer walls of the building.

In accordance with the principles of the zoning plan, the main façade material is light ribbed white concrete. Most of the façades at the entrance level, as well as the entrance lobby, are composed of system glass walls, with printed patterns used as solar shading on the higher sections. The areas flanking the main entrance are executed in large-patterned umber-toned glaze concrete.
