Concept for a New Piece of the Station Area

Kivivuorentie 4–6 is a concept‑stage proposal located next to the station and Laajaniitynaukio. The aim is to transform the area north of the shopping centre, including the service yards, into a lively urban block—a place where homes, services and everyday routes meet.

A Place Where Routes and Services Meet

Kivivuorentie 4–6 brings new everyday life to the heart of Martinlaakso—right by the station, on the edge of Laajaniitynaukio. The former service‑yard surroundings grow into an urban block where homes, ground‑floor services and inviting outdoor spaces intertwine. The street level opens to the streets and the square so that a coffee, a quick errand and everyday encounters happen naturally along the way.

The building ensemble draws a recognisable silhouette along the railway, while the street level remains human in scale. A varied rhythm, a warm material palette and abundant greenery make the environment relaxed and approachable. Laajaniitynaukio becomes more of the neighbourhood’s living room, and the route from the square to the station is clear and pleasant in every season.

Courtyards and deck‑level terraces form a sequence of small urban places—spots to pause, play and meet neighbours. Planting and greenery soften the character and bring nature close to daily life. Parking is arranged so that the ground level is left to people—walking, lingering and an active ground floor. The goal is a whole that feels distinctly Martinlaakso and stands the test of time—everyday ease today, flexibility for tomorrow.
