Landmark and Noise Barrier

Creating a landmark out o a whole urban neighborhood

The project includes two apartment buildings, five row houses, underground car park and yards belonging to the site.

Originally, the site comprised of two separate areas that were integrated into one entity.

Five stories high terrace houses were designed in a curved fashion, situated along Kontulantie road as the city plan requireed, thus creating both an area landmark and a noise barrier against the traffic din of a nearby busy Kontulantie expressway.

“The Builder’s Rose” Award nomination

Helsinki City gives out The Builder’s Rose award to recognise exceptional building projects, and our Mellunkylä design was among the nominees in 2018. Among other things, the project was praised for the seamless flow of different phases, from the very beginning to the very end. The judges admired “the creative and successful way in which the architects approached this extremely challenging task.”
