Bulevardi 21

New lease on life for the former office building

Before the renovation, the building at Bulevardi 21 has served as a government office building for decades. Now a new life has been created inside its walls and today it is an office for many different users. The building has its own car and bicycle park and from the top floors you can see all the way to the sea.

The building is located in a historic city centre, on the corner of Bulevardi and Albert streets, opposite the Aleksanteri Theater. The original house was designed by Niilo Kokko and was completed in 1961. The facades are a combination of copper sheets and red brick and the architecture is an example of modernist style in architecture.

Modern office space in the middle of the city

The façade has been preserved but the premises have been modernized to better suit modern office needs. The premises are designed to be customized according to the tenant and the property is currently applying for a BREEAM environmental certificate.

With the renovation, the previously slightly closed off air of the street façade has been given a new life. Now it enlivens the urban landscape e.g. with a restaurant, café, co-working spaces and a CrossFit gym. In this way, the building brings more joy not only to its users, but also to all living in the neighbourhood as well as to passers-by.

The project was also interesting because it is a part of the RKY area (Esplanadi-Bulevardi). The RKY area denotes a built cultural heritage environment of national importance. In other words, in addition to the fact that the façade of the building is of historical value, the area is also significant from the point of view of cultural history, architecture and landscape culture.
