Sokos Hotel
Kokkola 2

From Competition Win to Realization

The new Sokos Hotel Kokkola will be located at the corner of Tehtaankatu and Itäinen Kirkkokatu, adjacent to the main library and the former Anttila commercial building. The old bus station currently on the site will be demolished.

The plot will be fully developed, following the property boundaries. The aim for the entire block is to avoid monotonous façade sections.

The architectural expression of the building is based on the winning proposal of the Kokkola Railway Square and Bus Station design competition. The building complements and enhances the urban landscape with a refined, rhythmic presence. The massing makes use of recesses and height variations along the façade lines. The main building volume rises seven storeys, while the remaining volumes are six storeys high. The primary mass is light in appearance, with the top floor chamfered. The main façade material is fine-washed and ribbed concrete in four different colour tones. The ribbed concrete evokes the texture of stone masonry. Glass and copper surfaces are used within the arcades to accentuate the main entrances.

The primary function of the building is a hotel, offering 219 guest rooms. In addition to the accommodation floors, the first floor houses a restaurant and kitchen, the second floor features a conference centre, and the seventh floor includes sauna facilities with lounge areas and cooling-off terraces. The basement level accommodates support spaces serving the hotel, as well as the hotel’s parking facility.
